241B (2004) - Rubbing Beach

There were a total of 11 discrete northern resident killer whale calls identified. Whales were heard rubbing with calls at 19:20; N1  64% (n=7),  N5 18% (n=2), and N9 18% (n=2) call types were identified.

242A (2004) - Cracroft Point

A total of 74 calls were identified for tape number 242A recorded by Orcalab on August 5, 2004 (19:30 - 20:17) . Calls start at 19:58 with N1 calls at Cracroft Point. The A12s were recognized by Orcalab logs (Helena) at 20:02. Lots of boat noise at the end of recording. The N4 discrete calls type was the most abundant at 45% (n = 33), N16 at 16% (n = 12), N1 at 15% (n = 11), N7 at 12% (n = 9), N5 at 4% (n = 3), N2 at 3% (n = 2), N10 at 3% (n = 2), N9 at 1% (n = 1), and N13 at 1% (n = 1).

242B (2004) - Rubbing Beach

There were 82 discrete northern resident calls identified for recording 242B (August 5, 2004, 20:18 - 21:05), whales were rubbing on pebbles at 20:29. The majority of calls were N4 (40%), N1 (31%), and N5 (14%). Other calls identifed were N2 (5%), N3 (2%), N7 (1%), N9 (6%), and N16 (1%).

Quiet Recordings (2004)

Tapes 230A to 250B recorded by Orcalab in 2004 were analyzed for relatively quiet and loud ambient sound levels for computation by UVIC's Orchive program. This will allow researchers to organize and sample the large database of information for future studies.

243A (2004) - Rubbing Beach

Rubbing actively at the Robson Bight Main beach by the northern resident killer whales was heard at the beginning of the tape (21:07). A total of 27 calls were idnetified with the N4 call type heard with the most frequency (44%) throughout the recording; N2 (7%), N5 (15%), N9 (15%), and N25 (19%).
